Beyond the musculoskeletal system, the practice of yoga can create changes on a deeper level. There is a reason we feel so good after practicing. There is a reason many of us our drawn to practice.

In this workshop, we will explore the neurobiology of the practice and how this relates to our inner personal experience. Yoga changes us deeper than the physical structure and as we understand this more clearly, we can thus assist in creating an intentional practice to evolve beyond the mat. Applicable to yoga teachers, dedicated practitioners, and those curious about the effects of yoga.

Keelyn began teaching Yoga in 1998 just a few years after launching into a career in mental health. She explored closely the tools that can cross over to both therapy and yoga practices as a way to develop a more holistic approach to well-being. She currently has a thriving private practice as a psychotherapist and Certified Yoga Therapist. She can be found in the Flagstaff community teaching many things from fitness inspired yoga to Yoga Nidra. She has a diverse training background in both yoga and mental health treatment.

Yoga Alliance registered: 4 hours of CEU’s

This program is designed for both new and veteran yoga teachers wanting to better manage the variety of levels that walk into every classroom.  It will be applicable to all teachers, regardless of accessibility of props, or style of yoga they teach.

Participants will learn:

  • To observe when modifications are needed:  As a whole in the room or for individual students
  • Effective and clear language for presenting options:  Avoiding confusion/distraction
  • How to encourage people:  To stick with you, work safely, and reach their full potential
  • Specific, effective and accessible modifications for common postures
  • How options can build towards or detract from full potential

Let’s gather in community for a donation based yoga class taught by Rachel Heart and Erin Widman. A perfect way to start the Holiday and kick off your festivities! All proceeds go to the Flagstaff Family Food Center.

Sunday, November 19th Exploration Event: Foundations Training with Deb Gauld-Lash

In this exploration event we will discover a new way to treat pain and improve health with Foundations Training.

Over time chronic compression leads to chronic pain and poor health. Every Foundation Training exercise does the exact opposite. We add a necessary dose of external rotation of the shoulders, internal rotation of the hips, and decompression of the torso including the spine. Add our principals of anchoring and decompression and you have a movement program that restores the body’s natural strength, balance, alignment, and resiliency.

About Deb: Deb teaches in a direct, yet playful and humble atmosphere.  Foundation Training is a simple proven method that uses the principals of proper human movement to heal your pain, make you stronger, and allow you to perform better at any age or fitness level.

Time: 4:00-5:15PM

In this exploration event discover simple, quick, and effective yoga you can do before and after your athletic endeavor to help you perform your best and recover more completely. No previous yoga experience is necessary.

*Weather dependent, prepare for a 30 minute group run during the exploration event.
