Descriptions of Classes at The Yoga Experience
Rejuvenating Flow: Create balance, vitality, and radiance through asana (posture), pranayama (breathing exercises), and meditation in a steady-moving class that incorporates some yoga therapy, alignment, accessible sequencing, and an overall balanced approach to the practice.
Vinyasa Play Flow: In this fun and lighthearted class, bring your spirit of adventure as you delight in the unfolding possibilities of yoga.
Vinyasa Focus Flow: Prepare to focus your flow with this challenging and progressive class. Each class will target a particular asana or sequence of asanas, bringing the flow of your breath and mind into focus for a particular purpose.
Set Focus Flow: This led practice has a set sequence designed to build strength, remove toxins, and develop a deep level of flexibility, while invigorating the body and focusing the mind. Awareness of alignment principles is necessary to participate.
Set Rejuvenating Flow: This led practice is a set sequence designed to rejuvenate and restore the body. Sequence includes pranayama, supine postures, and headstand (3 minutes) and shoulder stand (5 minutes). If inversions are not appropriate for you, alternatives will be offered.
Prana Flow: This enlivening, creative, and inspiring class is based on the yoga teachings of Shiva Rea, Angela Farmer, and Victor van Kooten. You’ll work not only with strengthening, stretching, and toning your physical body, but also dive deeper into working with your breathe and energetic body, leaving you feeling lighter, brighter, and radiantly embodied.
YogaHour®: This class, designed by Darren Rhodes of Yoga Oasis in Tucson, Arizona, is an accessible and affordable class that offers clear and specific alignment instructions. It aims to be a doable yet difficult 1-hour flow class. Each class will be one of many established set sequences. Room heated 80–85 degrees. Appropriate for all levels of student that can tolerate the heat.
Alignment & Learning-based Classes
Yoga Basics: These classes teach fundamental postural alignment while building core strength, flexibility, and body awareness. Not only for students who are new to yoga, but also for dedicated yogis with limitations in their physical capacity due to age, injury, or manageable medical conditions.
Yoga Lab: Prepare to delve deeply and explore. Through intelligent sequencing and clear instruction, we will dissect postures, alignment, philosophy, and any element of practice you are willing to uncover. We attend to details and progressing postures.
Restorative Yoga: Restorative yoga allows the body to rest and heal, relieves the effects of chronic stress, supports a healthy immune system, and slows down the body and mind for better sleep.
Prenatal Yoga: Yoga offers women the tools to find the courage and patience to embrace the challenges of motherhood. For pregnant women at any stage of pregnancy; no yoga experience necessary. This class stretches and strengthens the body, balances the emotions, lifts and empowers the spirit. Expect breathing exercises, lower back support, and poses that address the common symptoms of pregnancy.
Yoga Play Shop: An energetic end-of-the week guided practice with rotating teachers that will carry you into the weekend in a playful way. This class will offer yoga poses from a variety of categories as well as pranayama and meditation on occasion. Come play with us!
Level 1 Classes
- Modified Surya Namaskar
- Basic standing postures
- Supine postures> Introductory backbends and forward bends
- Basic breathe awareness and mindful meditation
- Emphasis on fundamental alignment and awareness Builds strength with an emphasis on safety/protection
Level 2 Classes
- Full Surya Namaskar
- Support for inversion and arm-balance postures
- Standing postures; backbends and forward bends
- Introduction to deeper pranayama, mantra, and meditation
- Emphasis on detailed alignment and subtle body awareness
- Builds strength and endurance
Level 3 Classes
- Full Surya Namaskar, inversions, full range of challenging postures
- Pranayama, mantra, and meditation
- Emphasis on progressing yoga practice
Students are expected to have:
- Deep body awareness towards optimal alignment on both a physical and subtle level
- An inversion practice
- At least 1 year minimum of dedicated practice
